Dave Price was born on January 3, 1943 at Warsaw, New York. The oldest of 5 they grew up on a farm upstate New York. Dave always wanted to be a cowboy. He hitchhiked 750 miles to his first rodeo at Grayslake, Illinois. That fall he moved to Lawton, Oklahoma then to New Mexico and worked on ranches the first couple of winters and rodeoed in the summer. He then got on with the CO Wagon Babbits and only cowboyed and broke horses for 9 or 10 years. He worked
for Double 0 Ranch, Seligman, Arizona; Babbits, Flagstaff, Arizona; Spanish Ranch, Elko, Nevada; 41 Ranch, Deeth, Nevada; Winecup Ranch, Wilkens, Nevada; Venmejo Park Ranch, Raton, New Mexico and Waggoner Ranch, Vernon, Texas. He went back to rodeoing in 1971 riding saddle broncs in the PRCA nearly making the NFR in 1975 and finishing 18th in the world. Dave also worked on a ranch for Bill Gallino south of Valentine, Nebraska for 13 years.
Dave rode in the short-go of finals in Cheyenne, Pendleton and the Calgary Stampede.
Dave was a member of Pro Rodeo Cowboy Artists Association for about 12 years, showed and sold his own work at the NFR in Vegas. He won a few medals for paintings and drawings.
Dave has spent many years of his life as a working cowboy, a rodeo cowboy and a western artist. Today, he paints and draws the cowboy way. His gallery in Valentine, Nebraska, Price's Gallery and Framing, is filled with his wonderful western art. Each year he does the drawings for The Security First Bank, along with commissioned paintings.
